One of the
memories that many guests take away from a wedding is what the bride
looked like on her special day. Finding a wedding dress is a process
that can take five minutes, five hours or over five months. The perfect
dress is different for every bride. Some opt for a puffy ball gown and
others choose a slinky silk gown. Before even heading to stores, brides should do some research on what they like and want in a dress. While it is helpful to look at as many photos as needed, brides (and anyone who is brave enough to help them find the dress) should acclimate themselves to the terminology of wedding dress world so you don’t wind up drowning in dresses you won’t even consider buying. Using a dress dictionary, like the one provided by designer Mary, is useful for those who are new to bustles and wedding band collars. An important tip for brides to do before they shop is to know how much they can spend. What many forget when looking at dresses is that while the purchase price is under or just at the budget line, alterations are not included. Many dresses are not a perfect fit and need to have the dress hemmed or other fixes made to fit properly. Alterations vary in cost from free (if someone you know and trust can do it) up to hundreds of dollars. Brides should keep in mind to shave a few hundred off their dress budget in order to allow for dress alterations. For budget brides, one of the most known bridal shops is David’s Bridal. With over 300 stores nationwide, they are one of the largest bridal retail salon companies. Emphasizing quality and convenience, David’s Bridal has dressed hundreds of thousands of brides during its 50 years in business. I found my wedding dress at David’s Bridal. Many people ask why I purchased a dress so far in advance. In short, I explain to them that when I put it on, I knew it was the one for me. It happened to be a clearance designer Oleg Cassini dress so I could not afford to say no. By the time I add on for alterations, gown preservation and a veil, I will still be saving about $800 -$1000! A friend of mine, Chelsea Day, of Laurel, Md. also went to David’s Bridal to find her dress. |
